This essay was written by a 5th grader

School is very important.  Students can get a good job by going to school and it will help them in their life.  To be successful, students need to know three basic responsibilities: staying focused, being organized, and studying for tests.

First, students need to stay focused.  They need to make sure nothing distracts them.  If students have friends that don’t do their work on time and are fooling around, that student either needs to find a different friend or stay away from that friend during class.  Playing is a sport is good for a student’s mind.  But students should not get too carried away with sports.  Eating nutritious foods will also help students’ minds.  It will keep their mind working.  Pupils must also pay attention to the teacher.  They should be able to understand what the teacher is saying.

Another responsibility students need to take is being organized.  Students’ dividers should be named according to the subject.  If the subject is science, the divider shouldn’t be named as “reading” or “speech”.  One’s locker should also be organized.  Binders and books should not be stuffed in lockers.  If there is not enough room in one’s locker, a locker shelf would be useful.  This way, students can keep books on the bottom of the shelf and the top of the shelf.  Also, homework that is given to a student should be placed in the correct binder and divider.  Homework should not be stuffed in pockets and loose paper in a binder should be three-hole punched and placed in all three rings.  Homework and notes should always be kept safe.  One way students can remember their homework is by keeping a planner.  This will help one remember their homework and one can show their homework to their parents.  Planners also help students remember important events and after school activities.

The last responsibility students need to take is studying for tests.  Students need to remember to bring the correct material for a test.  If students are organized and have a planner, then they will remember the correct material.  Students also need to know everything for a test.  Looking over notes can help pupils study.  Study guides will also help pupils study, but they must also look over their notes to get more information on what the teacher actually said.  Asking someone to test them is a very good study habit.  The person who is testing them might catch a mistake that the pupil made on the study guide or their notes.  That person may also ask some part of the study guide that the pupil forgot to study.  One of the best times to study is right before the test.  As soon as students wake up, they should look over their notes and study guide.  That way, students aren’t cramming and they will be able to remember everything they need to know for the test.

These three responsibilities will help students in the future.  Staying focused, being organized, and studying for tests will also help students get a good education so they can get a good job.  Students should follow these responsibilities to be successful in school.
